Polyphlebium angustatum is a fern species in the Hymenophyllaceae family, found in South America and on several Atlantic islands, including Tristan da Cunha. It was first described in 2006 and is distributed in regions such as Boyacá, Cauca, and Cundinamarca in Colombia, as well as the Archipiélago de Cuba. The species is part of the genus Polyphlebium, which is recognized by the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group (PPG I) classification of 2016 but not by all taxonomic sources. As of October 2019, Plants of the World Online reclassified the genus into a broader Trichomanes, placing this species under Trichomanes angustatum.
Description
Polyphlebium angustatum is a member of the fern family Hymenophyllaceae and is native to parts of South America and the Atlantic islands. Its distribution includes regions like Boyacá, Cauca, and Cundinamarca in Colombia, as well as the Archipiélago de Cuba. The species was formally described in 2006. The genus Polyphlebium is recognized by the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group (PPG I) classification of 2016, but some taxonomic systems do not accept it. As of October 2019, the genus was merged into a broader concept of Trichomanes by the Plants of the World Online database, resulting in the reclassification of this species as Trichomanes angustatum.
