Pinus luzmariae is a conifer species in the family Pinaceae, native to Honduras and southwest Mexico. It is known to hybridize with Pinus herrerae, producing offspring that exhibit hybrid vigor. This species is classified within the subsection Australes of the genus Pinus.

Description

Pinus luzmariae belongs to the pine genus (Pinus) and is part of the Pinaceae family, which includes various coniferous trees. It is distributed across Honduras and parts of Mexico, particularly in the southwest region. The species is recognized for its ability to form hybrids with Pinus herrerae, a related pine species. These hybrids are noted for displaying increased vigor, a trait that can be advantageous in ecological and horticultural contexts. Pinus luzmariae and Pinus herrerae are both grouped within the subsection Australes, which includes pines native to the southern part of the genus' range. The species was formally described in 1998 by Pérez de la Rosa.
