Pimelea villosa, known as sand daphne, is a shrub in the Thymelaeaceae family, native to New Zealand. It is also referred to by the Māori names autetaranga or autetauranga. The species is classified as at risk and declining under the New Zealand Threat Classification System. The plant's bark was occasionally used for traditional textiles, though less frequently than other materials like paper mulberry or Hoheria populnea.

Description

Pimelea villosa is a shrub species in the Thymelaeaceae family, native to New Zealand. It is known by the alternative name Pimelea arenaria and by the Māori names autetaranga or autetauranga. The plant is considered at risk and declining according to the New Zealand Threat Classification System. Historically, the bark was used for making traditional items such as ribbons or ear ornaments, although it was not as widely used as the bark of paper mulberry (aute) or Hoheria populnea (houhere).
