Description

Cotyledon orbiculata is a member of the Crassulaceae family and is native to South Africa. It has been widely introduced to regions such as Belgium, France, the Netherlands, the United States, and others. The species was first published in 1753 by Linnaeus. Due to taxonomic discussions, the type specimen of Cotyledon orbiculata was proposed as the conserved type of the genus Cotyledon by Jarvis in 1992, and this proposal was later approved by the General Committee. The plant is commonly known as Pig's ear and is recognized for its succulent characteristics.
