Phryma nana is a flowering plant species in the family Phrymaceae, native to Japan. It was first described by Gen-ichi Koidzumi in 1939. Initially considered a subspecies or variety of Phryma leptostachya, its status as a distinct species was reaffirmed in 2016 based on molecular and morphological evidence. It is now recognized by Plants of the World Online.

Description

Phryma nana is a member of the Phrymaceae family, found in regions including Japan, Korea, and parts of China. The species was first formally described by Gen-ichi Koidzumi in 1939. For many years, it was not widely accepted as a separate species and was instead treated as a subspecies or variety of Phryma leptostachya. However, in 2016, new evidence from molecular phylogenetic and morphological studies supported its distinct status. As of April 2022, Phryma nana is recognized as a valid species in botanical databases.
