Phoebe pallida (Nees) Nees is a species in the Lauraceae family, distributed across Assam, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam, and the West Himalaya. It is a tree reaching up to 10 m in height, with leaves that are elliptic to oblong, 7–21 mm long. The species flowers from November to June and fruits from June to October, typically found at elevations of 1000–2000 m. It is described as very rare.
Description
Phoebe pallida is characterized by blackish to dark brown branchlets and leaves that are glabrous above and sparsely puberulous beneath. The leaves have 6–12 pairs of lateral veins and are acute to cuneate at the base. The panicles are few-branched and 5–12 cm long. Flowers have ovate-oblong tepals and a subglobose ovary. Immature fruits are ellipsoid. The species is poorly known and requires further study, as indicated by the mixed specimens in historical collections.
