Phoebe lanceolata (Nees) Nees is a species in the Lauraceae family, native to regions across South and Southeast Asia, including India, China, and Vietnam. It is a medium-sized tree, reaching heights of 3 to 20 meters, with narrowly oblong-elliptic to lanceolate leaves and panicles of flowers. The species flowers from December to June and fruits from May to November. It is commonly found in semi-evergreen to evergreen forests, shola forests, and temperate forests at elevations ranging from 150 to 2900 meters.

Description

Phoebe lanceolata is a tree species characterized by its clustered leaves at the ends of twigs, which are narrowly oblong-elliptic, lanceolate, or occasionally obovate-elliptic in shape, measuring 7–25 cm in length. The leaves are chartaceous to thinly coriaceous, with cuneate to acute or rounded bases and acuminate to caudate apices. The petioles are 5–20 mm long and glabrous. The panicles are 4–28 cm long, 2–5-branched, and bear 5 to many flowers. The flowers have pedicels 3–6 mm long, tepals 2.5–4 mm long, and stamens 2–2.5 mm long. The ovary is ovoid or subglobose. This species is found in a range of forest types, including evergreen and primary forests, at elevations from 150 to 2900 meters across its distribution.
