Parashorea malaanonan (Blanco) Merr.

Parashorea malaanonan is a tree species in the Dipterocarpaceae family, native to the Philippines and the northeast coast of Sabah in Borneo. It is known as Philippine-mahogany and grows up to 60 m tall in mixed dipterocarp forests on deep friable clay soils. The species is found in forest reserves in Sabah but is otherwise threatened by habitat loss. Its timber is used as a light hardwood and is marketed as white lauan or white seraya.
Description
Parashorea malaanonan (Blanco) Merr. is a tall emergent tree species in the Dipterocarpaceae family. It is native to the Philippines and the northeast coast of Sabah, Borneo. The species name malaanonan is derived from Tagalog. It is commonly found in mixed dipterocarp forests on deep friable clay soils. Although still present in some forest reserves in Sabah, the species faces threats from habitat loss in other areas. The tree produces a light hardwood used in the timber trade under the names white lauan or white seraya. The species was first described in 1918.
