Philesia magellanica is a species of flowering plant in the monocot family Philesiaceae, native to southern Argentina and southern Chile. It is part of the genus Philesia, which was first described in 1789. The plant is known by the native name Coicopihue.

Philesia magellanica, described by J.F. Gmelin in 1792, is a member of the Philesiaceae family. It is indigenous to the southern regions of Argentina and Chile. The genus Philesia was first formally recognized in 1789 and includes this species as one of its representatives. The plant is locally referred to as Coicopihue.
