Description
Macroptilium lathyroides is a member of the Fabaceae family and is the type species of the genus Macroptilium. It is distributed across tropical and subtropical regions, including Central and South America, and has been naturalized in various tropical areas such as BR, TW, VU, Rapa Nui, CK, NU, AS, WS, PW, SB, KI, BF, KM, SG, IN, and MY. This plant is cultivated for agricultural purposes, including forage, green manure, and as a cover crop in crop rotation. However, due to its rapid growth and spread on disturbed soils, it is considered an environmental weed in some locations. It was first described in 1928.
