Pfeiffera monacantha is an epiphytic cactus native to Bolivia and northwest Argentina. It was previously known as Rhipsalis monacantha and has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. The species was formally published in 1994.
Description
Pfeiffera monacantha, also called the one-spined wickerware cactus, is a member of the Cactaceae family. It is found in the regions of Bolivia and northwest Argentina. The plant was originally described under the genus Rhipsalis as Rhipsalis monacantha before being reclassified into the genus Pfeiffera. The species has been recognized for its horticultural value, earning the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. It is known for its distinctive wicker-like appearance and is one of the few cacti that grow as epiphytes, typically found on trees or rocks in its native habitat.
