Persicaria tinctoria, known as Chinese indigo, Japanese indigo, or dyer's knotweed, is a flowering plant in the Polygonaceae family. It is native to Southern China and Vietnam, and has been introduced to several other regions including Germany, Japan, Korea, Tibet, the North and South Caucasus, the Russian Far-East, and Ukraine.

Description

Persicaria tinctoria (Ait.) H.Gross is a member of the Polygonaceae family, commonly referred to as the buckwheat family. It is native to Southern China and Vietnam. This species has been introduced to other parts of China as well as to Germany, Japan, Korea, Tibet, the North and South Caucasus, the Russian Far-East, and Ukraine. It is known by the common names Chinese indigo, Japanese indigo, and dyer's knotweed. The species was published in 1919.
