Sageretia thea is a shrub in the Rhamnaceae family, native to southern China and other regions including the United States, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Japan, and Pakistan. Commonly known as Pauper's-tea, it is widely used for bonsai cultivation.
Description
Sageretia thea (Osbeck) M.C.Johnst. is a member of the Rhamnaceae family and is found in a broad range of regions, including southern China, the conterminous 48 United States, and parts of Asia and Africa. It is known by the common name Pauper's-tea and is valued for its use in bonsai. The species was first described as R. thea by Osbeck in 1757, and later reclassified under the genus Sageretia. It was formally published in 1968.
