Parodia magnifica, a species in the Cactaceae family, is native to southern Brazil. Known as ball cactus or balloon cactus, it grows up to 15 cm tall and 45 cm wide. It has spiny, hairy, ribbed stems and produces pale yellow flowers in summer. It inhabits cool, dry temperate grasslands at elevations up to 800 m. Listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List due to sparse and fragmented populations.
Description
Parodia magnifica (F.Ritter) F.H.Brandt is a member of the Cactaceae family. It is found in southern Brazil and is commonly called ball cactus or balloon cactus. The plant has spherical to columnar stems with prominent ribs, spines, and a hairy texture. It reaches 7–15 cm in height and can spread up to 45 cm in width.
