Microlepia strigosa, known as palapalai, is a fern species in the Dennstaedtiaceae family. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions including the Hawaiian Islands, India, and Malaysia. The plant has coarse, light to medium green fronds that can grow up to 0.9 m in length. It is one of approximately seventy species in the Microlepia genus.

Description

Microlepia strigosa (Thunb.) C.Presl is a member of the Dennstaedtiaceae family and is commonly called palapalai. It is found in a range of tropical and subtropical regions such as the Hawaiian Islands, India, and Malaysia. The species is characterized by its coarse, light to medium green fronds that can reach lengths of over 0.9 m. It is part of the Microlepia genus, which includes about seventy species. The plant has been known by several other scientific names in the past, including Davallia hirta and Dicksonia strigosa. It is one of two indigenous fern species in the main Hawaiian Islands.
