Paesia scaberula, known as ring fern or mātata, is a fern species native to New Zealand and other regions in the Pacific. It is characterized by its lacy, creeping growth, yellow-green fronds, and brown stalks.

Description

Paesia scaberula belongs to the Dennstaedtiaceae family and is found in the Chatham Islands, New Guinea, and both North and South islands of New Zealand. The species was first described in 1882. It can grow up to 115 centimetres in height and is noted for its distinctive scent. The fern is commonly referred to as ring fern or mātata in local contexts.
