Paeonia cambessedesii is a herbaceous perennial peony reaching up to 45 cm in height. It is native to the Balearic Islands and is found mainly in northeastern and northwestern Majorca. The plant features pink flowers, purple-red stems, major veins, and leaf undersides, while the upper leaf surfaces develop a metallic bluish-green color when mature. The lower leaves have no more than nine leaflets or segments.
Description
Paeonia cambessedesii, belonging to the Paeoniaceae family, is an endemic species restricted to the Balearic Islands. It is known for its distinctive coloration, with purple-red stems, veins, and leaf undersides, contrasting with the metallic bluish-green upper leaf surfaces. The plant's lower leaves are composed of no more than nine leaflets. It was first described in 1880 and is commonly referred to in English as the Balearic peony or Majorcan peony.
