Chamaedorea costaricana is a palm species in the Arecaceae family, native to Central America. It is commonly known as pacaya, a name also used for Chamaedorea tepejilote.

Description

Chamaedorea costaricana, described by Oerst. in 1859, is a member of the Arecaceae family. It is distributed across several Central American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico Southeast, Nicaragua, and Panama. In Costa Rica, it is locally referred to as pacaya, although this name is also applied to another species, Chamaedorea tepejilote. The species is part of the Chamaedorea genus, which includes a number of palms adapted to tropical and subtropical environments.
