Oxyanthus tubiflorus is a shrub in the Rubiaceae family, native to Sierra Leone, Guinea, and possibly Liberia. It is known for its long, tubular flowers, up to 18 cm in length, and is pollinated by a species of sphinx moth.

Description

Oxyanthus tubiflorus, known as the needle flower, is a member of the Rubiaceae family. It is found in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and likely neighboring Liberia. The plant has opposite leaves measuring 3 to 7 inches in length and 1 to 3 inches in width. Its flowers are elongated, reaching up to 18 cm in length, and are adapted for pollination by a specific species of sphinx moth. The species was formally described in 1830 and belongs to the genus Oxyanthus.
