Festuca ovina L. is a grass species belonging to the family Poaceae. Its distribution spans multiple regions, including Greenland, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, French Southern and Antarctic Lands, Mexico, Bhutan, Madeira, and parts of the United States. The species was first published in 1753. Jarvis and others provided a detailed account of the original elements in 1987, including an illustration of the type. A prior account was also given by Kerguelen in 1975. The species is sometimes confused with hard fescue.
