Oreocnide pedunculata, known as the purple woodnettle or longpedicel woodnettle, is a flowering plant in the Urticaceae family. It is native to Japan, the Ryukyu Islands, and Taiwan, where it grows as a shrub or small tree up to 5 m tall. This species is commonly found in valleys and along forest edges at elevations between 100 and 1,200 m. It serves as a food source for Formosan rock macaques and Japanese macaques.
Description
Oreocnide pedunculata is a member of the Urticaceae family and is distributed across Japan, the Ryukyu Islands, and Taiwan. It grows as a shrub or small tree reaching heights of 2 to 5 m. The plant thrives in valley and forest edge habitats at elevations from 100 to 1,200 m. Its leaves are consumed by Formosan rock macaques and Japanese macaques. The species was first described in 1930.
