Ochna obtusata is a woody shrub or small tree in the Ochnaceae family. It is native to Assam, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The plant features glossy leaves, yellow flowers, and distinctive red seed cups that resemble the face of the Disney character Mickey Mouse. The seeds start green and turn black as they mature.

Description

Ochna obtusata, described by DC. in 1811, is a member of the Ochnaceae family. It is found in several regions of South and Southeast Asia, including Assam, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The plant is characterized by its glossy foliage and yellow flowers, followed by bright red seed cups that are visually striking. The seed cups initially enclose green seeds, which later turn jet black. The plant can be propagated through seeds, which germinate quickly, or through hardwood cuttings, which take longer to root.
