Nymphaea lukei belongs to the genus Nymphaea and is part of the Nymphaeaceae family, commonly known as the water lily family. This species is endemic to Western Australia. It was first published and scientifically described in 2011 by S.W.L. Jacobs and Hellq. As a member of the Nymphaeaceae, it shares characteristics typical of water lilies, such as aquatic habitat and showy, floating flowers.
