Encephalartos septentrionalis, known as the Nile Cycad, is a cycad species native to South Sudan, northern Uganda, northern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the interior of the Central African Republic. It was first described in 1871 by the botanist Schweinf. and belongs to the family Zamiaceae.

Description

The Nile Cycad is a member of the genus Encephalartos and is found in parts of Africa. Its distribution spans across several countries in the central region of the continent. As a cycad, it is part of an ancient group of seed plants that have existed since the Mesozoic era. This species is part of the Zamiaceae family, which is characterized by its palm-like appearance and slow growth. The plant has been documented in the scientific literature since 1871.
