Abies homolepis, known as Nikko fir, is a fir species native to Japan, growing in the mountains of central and southern Honshu and Shikoku. It is found at elevations between 700 and 2,200 meters, typically in temperate rainforests characterized by high rainfall, cool, humid summers, and heavy winter snowfall.
Description
Abies homolepis is a member of the Pinaceae family and is native to Japan. Its distribution includes the Pacific-side mountains of central and southern Honshu and Shikoku. This species thrives in temperate rainforest environments with high precipitation levels and distinct seasonal patterns. It was first described in 1842 by Siebold & Zucc. The species is also known by the Japanese name urajiro momi.
