Nigella orientalis, the yellow fennel flower, is a 20 to 40 in tall annual or biennial species in the family Ranunculaceae. It is native to Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece, the eastern Aegean Islands, Turkey, the Transcaucasus, Lebanon, Syria, and northern Iran, and has been introduced to southern European Russia. It is characterized by highly dissected leaves and is typically found in temperate regions. A cultivar, 'Transformer', has been developed.

Description

Nigella orientalis is a member of the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae. It is an annual or biennial plant that grows between 20 and 40 inches in height. The plant is native to regions including Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece, the eastern Aegean Islands, Turkey, the Transcaucasus, Lebanon, Syria, and northern Iran. It has also been introduced to southern European Russia. The species is distinguished by its highly dissected leaves and is commonly found in temperate habitats. A cultivar known as 'Transformer' has been cultivated.
