It is naturally distributed across Queensland, New South Wales, Lord Howe Island, and New Caledonia. This species is characterized as a tetraploid, indicating it has four sets of chromosomes. Its classification within the Nicotiana genus includes a range of wild tobacco species, many of which are found in Australia and the Pacific region.
