Nepenthes pitopangii is a tropical pitcher plant native to Sulawesi, Indonesia. It was first discovered in 2006 in Lore Lindu National Park and was initially known from a single specimen. A second population of about a dozen plants was found in 2011, over 100 km from the original site. The species is closely related to N. glabrata, but differs particularly in the structure of its upper pitchers. It was formally described in 2009.
Description
Nepenthes pitopangii belongs to the family Nepenthaceae and is part of the genus Nepenthes. It is endemic to the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The species was first documented in 2006, with a second population identified in 2011. Despite efforts to locate additional populations in the surrounding area after its initial discovery, no further occurrences were found until the second population was recorded. The plant is most distinguishable from N. glabrata by the morphology of its upper pitchers. Its scientific name was published in 2009 by Chi.C.Lee, S.McPherson, Bourke, and M.Mansur.
