The species name, naga, meaning 'dragon' in Indonesian, refers to the unique lid appendage and the large size of its pitchers. The name also connects to local folklore about dragons in the region.

Description

Nepenthes naga is a member of the genus Nepenthes in the family Nepenthaceae. It is found in the Barisan Mountains of Sumatra and is characterized by a forked appendage on the underside of the lid and a wavy lid margin. The species was described in 2009 by Akhriadi, Hernawati, Primaldhi, and M.Hambali. The name naga, meaning 'dragon' in Indonesian, reflects the plant's distinctive features and local legends of dragons in its habitat.
