Juniperus rigida, known as Needle Juniper, is a species native to northern China, Mongolia, Korea, Japan, and the far southeast of Russia, growing at altitudes from 10 to 2,200 meters. It is also naturalized in the United States. This species is closely related to Juniperus communis and Juniperus conferta, with the latter sometimes classified as a variety or subspecies of J. rigida.

Description

Juniperus rigida belongs to the Cupressaceae family and is part of the Juniperus genus. It is a woody plant that can grow as a shrub or tree, with leaves typically arranged oppositely and often with stipules. The species has been documented in several regions, including Alabama, California, China North-Central, Inner Mongolia, Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Nansei-shoto, Primorye, Qinghai, and Sakhalin. It was first described in 1846 by Siebold & Zucc.
