Tasmannia lanceolata is a flowering plant species in the Winteraceae family, native to south-eastern Australia. It is commonly known as mountain pepper and is a dioecious shrub or small tree with lance-shaped or narrowly elliptic leaves. The plant has male and female flowers on separate plants, with 3 to 9 petals, and produces a deep maroon to glossy black berry as fruit.

Description

Tasmannia lanceolata, known as mountain pepper, is a species of flowering plant in the Winteraceae family. Endemic to south-eastern Australia, it is a dioecious shrub or small tree characterized by lance-shaped or narrowly elliptic leaves. The flowers are unisexual, with male and female flowers occurring on separate plants, and each flower has 3 to 9 petals. The plant produces a deep maroon to glossy black berry as fruit. It was first described in 1969 by A.C. Smith, who reclassified it from its original name given by Poir.
