Monstera epipremnoides is a species in the Araceae family, native to Costa Rica and Panama. It is an epiphytic climber found in cloud forests. The plant has adult stems 2–3 cm thick and large, ovate, pinnatifid leaves with 12–20 pinnae per side and numerous perforations, some small and round to elliptic, others elongated. The leaves can reach up to 55 cm in length and 35 cm in width. The spadix is cylindrical, 9–12 cm long, and the peduncle is 20–30 cm long. The species is distinct from M. adansonii var. laniata and is not present in the flora of Surinam.

Description

Monstera epipremnoides (Engl.) is an epiphytic climber in the Araceae family, endemic to Costa Rica and Panama. It grows in cloud forest habitats. The adult stems are 2–3 cm thick, and the petioles are 35–50 cm long with persistent sheath wings. The lamina is ovate, subcoriaceous, and pinnatifid with 12–20 pinnae per side, each 1.0–2.5 cm wide. The leaves have perforations, some small and round to elliptic (0.5–2.0 cm across), and others elongated, extending from the midrib nearly to the margin. The peduncle is 20–30 cm long and about 1 cm thick, supporting a 15–22 cm spathe. The spadix is 9–12 cm long and 2 cm thick, with truncate pistils. The fruit is unknown. Earlier records from Surinam are considered misidentifications as M. adansonii var. laniata.
