Monstera dissecta is a species of epiphytic plant in the Araceae family, native to regions in Central and South America. It is characterized by its elongated, pinnatifid leaves and can grow up to 10 meters tall. The species was first described in 1987.

Description

Monstera dissecta (Schott) Croat & Grayum is an epiphytic plant found in countries such as Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, and others. In its juvenile stage, it is a terrestrial creeper with ovate to lanceolate leaves that are glossy on the upper surface. Early leaves are entire or occasionally have 1–4 perforations before transitioning to pinnatifid leaves. The adult plant has an elliptic stem, 1.5–3.0 cm thick, with leaves clustered at the apex. The petiole is 35–75 cm long, smooth, and nearly reaches the lamina base. The lamina is coriaceous, ovate, and pinnatifid, measuring 40–70 cm in length and 20–40 cm in width, with 4–12 pinnae on each side.
