Monotagma spicatum is a species in the Marantaceae family, native to several regions in South America. It is found in the Caquetá and Guaviare departments in Brazil, specifically in the Parque Nacional Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete. Its distribution also extends to Brazil's Northeast and North regions, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad-Tobago, and Venezuela.

Description

Monotagma spicatum (Aubl.) J.F.Macbr. is a member of the Marantaceae family and was first described in 1931. This species is primarily found in the Amazon and Guiana Shield regions, with documented occurrences in the Caquetá and Guaviare departments of Brazil, particularly within the Parque Nacional Natural Serranía de Chiribiquete. It is also reported in the Northeast and North regions of Brazil, as well as in French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad-Tobago, and Venezuela. The species is part of the genus Monotagma, which is characterized by its herbaceous growth and typical features of the Marantaceae family.
