Monodora zenkeri Engl. is a species in the Annonaceae family, native to Cameroon. It is a leaning tree or possibly a liana, reaching up to 6 m in height with a diameter at breast height of up to 6 cm. It lacks stilt roots or buttresses. The plant has simple hairs on young branches, which become glabrous with age. Leaves are elliptic to obovate, coriaceous to papyraceous, and glabrous on both surfaces. The flowers are bisexual, with 9 perianth parts in 3 whorls and 1 flower per inflorescence. The species was described in 1899.
Description
Monodora zenkeri Engl. is a member of the Annonaceae family and is found in Cameroon. It is a leaning tree or possibly a liana, up to 6 m tall with a trunk diameter of up to 6 cm. The plant lacks stilt roots or buttresses. Young branches are sparsely pubescent, becoming glabrous with age. Leaves have a petiole 2–4 mm long and a blade 10–15 cm long, 8–14 cm wide, elliptic to obovate, with an acuminate apex and a rounded to obtuse base. The blade is coriaceous to papyraceous and glabrous on both surfaces. The flowers are bisexual, with 9 perianth parts in 3 whorls, and 1 flower per inflorescence. The pedicel is 28–50 mm long, sparsely pubescent, and the bracts are 11–20 mm long. Sepals are 3, valvate, free, and ovate. Petals are basally fused, with outer petals longer than inner ones. The species was first described in 1899.
