Symphyotrichum shortii is a flowering plant in the Asteraceae family, native to North America east of the Mississippi River. It grows in rocky soils of woodlands and thickets, often near limestone bluffs. It is widespread but typically found in undisturbed natural habitats.

Symphyotrichum shortii (Lindl.) G.L.Nesom is a species of the Asteraceae family, commonly known as midwestern blue heart-leaf aster. It is found in regions including Ontario, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. This plant is typically found in rocky soils of woodlands and thickets, especially near limestone bluffs. It is common in its range but generally limited to intact natural communities. The species was published in 1995.
