Microstachys chamaelea (L.) Müll.Arg., a member of the Euphorbiaceae family, is a plant species native to various regions across tropical and subtropical areas of Asia and Africa. It has been documented in locations such as the Andaman Islands, Bangladesh, Benin, Borneo, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Southeast China, Ghana, Hainan, India, Ivory Coast, Java, Malaya, Mali, Myanmar, Nigeria, and the Northern Territory. The species was published in 1863.

Description

Microstachys chamaelea is part of the genus Microstachys and belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family, commonly known as the spurge family. Its distribution spans a wide range of countries in both Asia and Africa, indicating a broad ecological adaptability. The species was originally described in 1863 by Müll.Arg., based on earlier work by Linnaeus. However, the material used by Linnaeus was not available to him in 1753 and thus does not constitute original material for the name. Airy Shaw later noted that the type material is preserved in LINN, though it does not predate the 1753 publication. This species is part of ongoing taxonomic discussions regarding the validity and origin of Linnaean plant names.
