It is widely distributed across tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, including TW, Madeira, Assam, China South-Central, China Southeast, East Himalaya, Hainan, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Tibet, Vietnam, and West Himalaya. The species was published in 1842 under the scientific name Microlepia platyphylla (Don) J.Sm. It belongs to the genus Microlepia, which includes several species of terrestrial ferns characterized by their broad, leathery fronds and creeping rhizomes.
