Picea martinezii, known as Martinez's Spruce, is a medium-sized evergreen tree found in northeast Mexico. It reaches heights of 25–35 m and has a trunk diameter of up to 1 m. This species is native to the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains in Nuevo León, occurring at six localities. It grows at altitudes between 2150 and 2600 m, typically along streamsides in mountain valleys where soil moisture is higher than expected for the region's low rainfall.

Description

Picea martinezii belongs to the Pinaceae family and is part of the Picea genus. It is native to the Sierra Madre Oriental in Nuevo León, Mexico, and is limited to six known localities. The tree thrives in mountain valleys at moderate altitudes, where it benefits from increased soil moisture along stream banks. The species was first described in 1988 by T.F.Patt. Its distribution is restricted to the Global region, specifically in northeast Mexico.
