The plant is commonly known as Marsh Scheuchzeria and is native to regions including Labrador, Newfoundland, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Flanders, the southeastern United States, Vermont, Norway, Denmark, and Alaska.
