It is native to North America, the Caribbean, and Central America, with records in regions such as New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and several U.S. states including Vermont, Alabama, and Arkansas. The species was first described by Linnaeus in 1753.
Description
Proserpinaca palustris is a member of the Haloragaceae family and is commonly referred to as Marsh Mermaid-Weed. It is distributed across the Nearctic and Neotropical regions, including locations such as Antioquia, Brazil South, and Bermuda. The species was originally described by Linnaeus in 1753. Fernald & Griscom (1935) designated a type specimen, later restricted by Reveal to a specific sheet containing a mixture of taxa. The plant is found in wetland habitats and is part of the broader global distribution of the genus Proserpinaca.
