Marquesia macroura is a tall tree species in the Dipterocarpaceae family, native to Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania. It can reach heights of up to 30 meters and is found in wet miombo woodlands and dry evergreen Cryptosepalum forests at elevations up to 1,500 meters. The tree flowers from June to October and is insect-pollinated. It is common in its habitat and often locally dominant, but its population is declining due to overharvesting for timber and forest clearance.

Description

Marquesia macroura, described by Gilg in 1908, is a member of the Dipterocarpaceae family. It is a large tree species that grows in wet miombo woodlands and dry evergreen Cryptosepalum forests on loamy Kalahari sands. The species is native to northern Angola, southern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, and western Tanzania. It flowers from June to October and relies on insect pollination. The tree is common in its habitat and often locally dominant. However, its population is declining due to overharvesting for timber and forest clearance. The species is found at elevations up to 1,500 meters.
