Mammea suriga is a flowering plant in the Calophyllaceae family, found in Assam, Bangladesh, India, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. It is a medium-sized plant with simple, opposite leaves and fragrant white flowers. Cultivated in the Western Ghats for its flowers, it is known as Surige Mara in Kannada and Surnga in Kokani, Goa.

Description

Mammea suriga (Buch.-Ham. ex Roxb.) Kosterm. belongs to the genus Mammea in the Calophyllaceae family. It is native to regions including Assam, Bangladesh, India, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. This plant is characterized by its fragrant white flowers and simple, opposite leaves. It is grown in the Western Ghats for ornamental purposes due to its flowers. Local names for the plant include Surige Mara in Kannada and Surnga in Kokani, Goa. The species was formally described in 1961.
