Cynomorium coccineum L., commonly known as Maltese-mushroom, is a plant species in the family Cynomoriaceae. It was first described in 1753 and is native to regions including Afghanistan, Algeria, China North-Central, Egypt, Iran, Italy, and Morocco, among others. The species is part of the genus Cynomorium.

Description

Cynomorium coccineum L. is a member of the Cynomoriaceae family and is distributed across multiple regions, including the Gulf States, Inner Mongolia, and Libya. The species is known by the common name Maltese-mushroom in English. Historical records note that a specimen designated as 1084.1 (LINN) was considered by Jafri as a type specimen, but it lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number and was added to the herbarium after 1753, thus not representing original material for the name.
