Stephanomeria malheurensis, known as Malheur wirelettuce, is a member of the Asteraceae family and is native to Oregon. It is an annual plant that is federally listed as endangered.

Description

Stephanomeria malheurensis is an annual plant that grows between 10-60 cm tall. It has a single stem with ascending branches and glabrous surfaces. The leaves wither by the time of flowering, with basal blades that are oblanceolate to spatulate in shape. The plant produces single flower heads along its branches, with peduncles measuring 5-10 mm in length. The involucres are 8-9.5 mm in size and contain 5-6 florets, with ligules typically pink, though occasionally white or orange-yellow. The cypselae are tan to light brown, 3.3-3.8 mm long, and have tuberculate, grooved surfaces. The pappi consist of 9-12 bristles that are light tan and plumose on the distal 50-60%. The species has a chromosome count of 2n = 16.
