Description

Maihueniopsis atacamensis (Phil.) F.Ritter is a member of the Cactaceae family, commonly known as the cactus family. This species is native to northern Chile, where it grows in its natural habitat. The genus Maihueniopsis includes several cactus species characterized by their columnar or globular forms and spiny structures. The species name 'atacamensis' refers to its geographic origin in the Atacama region. The taxonomic description of this species was published in 1980, following the original work by Philippi, and later revised by F.Ritter.
