Macrosolen capitellatus belongs to the genus Macrosolen within the Loranthaceae family, commonly known as the sandalwood family. This species is distributed across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, specifically in India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. The taxonomic name was published in 1936 by B.H. Danser, who revised the work originally attributed to Wight and Arn. The species is part of a group of parasitic or hemiparasitic plants that are often found growing on host trees.
