It is distributed across regions including Afghanistan, China North-Central, Inner Mongolia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Mongolia, the North Caucasus, Pakistan, Qinghai, Tadzhikistan, Tibet, the Transcaucasus, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This plant is known by several common names, such as Russian box thorn, black fruit wolfberry, siyah goji, black goji, and kaokee.
