It is recognized for its glowing appearance in low-light conditions and is found in regions including Labrador, Québec, Vermont, and parts of Europe such as Denmark, Luxembourg, and Belgium.

Schistostega pennata (Hedw.) F.Weber & D.Mohr is a moss species in the family Schistostegaceae. It is distributed across Labrador, Québec, Vermont, Denmark, Luxembourg, and Belgium. Commonly referred to as luminous moss, it is also known by names such as goblin gold and Dragon's gold. This species belongs to the order Dicranidae and is notable for its bioluminescent-like appearance in dark environments. It was first described in 1803 and is the only species in its family.
