Triplaris weigeltiana is a species in the genus Triplaris, belonging to the family Polygonaceae. It is commonly known as 'Long john' and is native to regions in South America, including Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad-Tobago, and Venezuela. It has also been recorded in Amazonas, Hawaii, and the Society Islands. The species was first described in 1898 by Kuntze, revising the original name by Rchb.

Description

Triplaris weigeltiana is found in various protected and natural areas such as Parque Nacional Natural de Amacayacu, Distrito Regional de Manejo Integrado (DRMI) Laguna de Sonso, and the municipio de Guadalajara de Buga in Colombia's Valle del Cauca. It is also present in the Núcleo Manuelita and Núcleo Unipalma. The species is part of the global biodiversity of the Polygonaceae family, which includes a wide range of flowering plants. It is known to occur in the microcuenca alta de río Tillavá and is documented in several ecological regions and biomes.
